The WFI still and the PSG are considered critical equipment, not only because WFI and pure steam are two of the most critical utilities in parenteral production. They are critical because they are the final stage of the purification process. There are also no more purifying barriers before these utilities enter into direct contact with the product itself or with product contact surfaces. Finally, if any of these utilities fail, they may put a complete production unit to a halt.
